Anxiety

Can therapy help with Anxiety?

Anxiety in its most basic understanding is an emotion that serves as an internal alarm system warning us of potential danger. That being true, not all anxious thoughts or feelings are necessarily wrong or abnormal, it's the bodies way of attempting to keep us safe. While occasional anxiety can serve a purpose in keeping us from harm, anxiety can be problematic when it goes beyond detecting potential threats and begins to take control over us in ways that are no longer helpful but harmful to our quality of life.

There are many forms of anxiety and even more symptoms, some symptoms being difficult to detect as they manifest themselves in unusual or more subtle ways. If you are experiencing anxiety where you find yourself making decisions inconsistent with a particular level of threat, or confused, possibly even debilitated by spiraling thoughts please know that there is hope available to you.

The anxiety symptoms you experience are typically linked to your history. When current situations are similar to past traumatic experiences this will likely trigger your anxiety symptoms. At Hope for Healing, our counselors are trained to help you identify the related experiences and triggers while also providing you with the tools to manage or even prevent unhealthy anxiety so that you can live a fuller and vibrant life.

Common symptoms of anxiety are:

  • Feeling nervous, irritable, or on edge

  • Having a sense of impending danger, panic or doom

  • Having an increased heart rate

  • Breathing rapidly (hyperventilation), sweating, and/or trembling

  • Feeling weak or tired

  • Difficulty concentrating

  • Having trouble sleeping

  • Experiencing gastrointestinal (GI) problems

You do not have face anxiety alone nor do you have to continue to suffer from its controlling presence in your life without hope. Please contact us today to see how we can partner with you in your hope for healing.
